"anthropo" - combining - form human; of a human being.

"creature" - noun - an animal, as distinct from a human being.

 

My Anthropocreature collection explores the space between human and animal, drawing on the idea of the chimera to create hybrid beings that feel both familiar and uncanny. Rooted in my wider illustration practice, these works use detailed linework, pattern, and mixed media to merge the natural with the unnatural, forming figures that exist between categories.

 

This body of work is closely tied to my queer identity, reflecting an ongoing interest in fluidity, transformation, and the rejection of fixed definitions. By combining human and animal forms, I explore the tension between what is recognisable and what is strange, embracing the fantastical as a space for possibility and self-expression.

 

Through intricate mark-making and layered textures, my Anthropocreatures become both portraits and imagined beings; creatures that challenge boundaries and invite viewers into my world where identity is not fixed, but constantly shifting and reimagined.
